Engine Compartment

In addition to the automotive electric components, other injection-molded parts made mainly from VESTODUR® and VESTORAN® compounds are also used in the engine compartment. VESTODUR® compounds in particular are increasingly in demand on account of their high dimensional stability.


  • For the manufacture of complex headlight frame geometries with accurate fit, we offer various reinforced and non-reinforced VESTODUR® compounds, that are easy to process. The finished headlight frames show high surface quality even suited for high polish chromium plating. Manufactured of a special grade they exhibit very little gassing, even at elevated service temperatures of up to 160°C, thus preventing headlights from clouding.
  • Chemical and temperature resistance, low tendency to creep and high creep strength, excellent flexibility and high strain at break are some of the special demands on tubes of oil dipsticks. The copolyester compounds VESTODUR® are the material of choice for these requirements. They also meet the tougher demands on hydrolysis and engine oil stability.
  • Parts in the engine compartment that house membranes or electrical components, for example, are subject to high mechanical and thermal stresses. Easy-flowing, fiberglass-reinforced VESTODUR® compounds withstand these. In addition they feature higher impact strength and strain at break than conventional compounds with comparable stiffness.
  • Even at high temperatures VESTORAN® is quite resistant to glycol-water mixtures used for engine cooling and has availed itself well in water pump impellers.
  • Good resistance to fuels, oils and grease is essential for plastics that do duty in engine compartments. Other prized properties in the manufacture of cable ties and cable ducts made from VESTAMID® L compounds are very good flexibility and high impact strength at low temperatures and good heat deflection temperature.
