Air Brake Line Systems

Many years ago, plastics replaced the combination of metal tubes and rubber tubing in the air brake line systems of heavy and medium utility vehicles. Standards for the use of plastics have existed for the last 40 years. As safety components, air brake lines must satisfy the appropriate DIN standards in Europe and the SAE standards in the U.S. Our experts have made decisive contributions to these standards. Adherence to them guarantees that trucks will come to a full safe halt in any situation.

We offer tried and tested VESTAMID® L compounds that conform to standards and satisfy all the safety requirements of the system.

• Because air brake lines are attached unprotected under the whole frame, the ability to withstand stone "hits" is particularly important. VESTAMID® L is distinguished here by its high impact strength and low-temperature impact strength. Even construction site vehicles can always rely on their brakes.

• At the same time, the lines are so flexible that they can be moved freely between the aggregates and coiled into spirals.
• The good chemical resistance of polyamide 12 is exploited to excellent effect in the area of metal connections. Zinc chloride in de-icing salt does not cause stress cracking in VESTAMID® L tubes
• The compounds that we developed further also satisfy DIN requirements for materials in high burst pressure-rated air brake lines. These requirements were made more stringent in 1996. These VESTAMID® L lines are used primarily in tractors in Europe, while VESTAMID® L tubes corresponding to the traditional pressure levels are used for trailers and coils.
